Ross Castle is a large country house of c. 1770, incorporating the fabric of a c. 1590 tower house, and other phases. The interior contains a stone vaulted basement and a 17th century chimneypiece. The house was renovated by its current owners, starting in 1985. A large stable yard at the side is converted to accommodation. The imposing building is set in a demesne overlooking Ross Lake. Formerly the home of the Martins, it was the home of Violet, of the Somerville and Ross writing duo.
